With the growing shortage of raw materials around the world and maximised contribution required of the forestry sector to the national economy, priority is being given to downstream processing and value added production investments.

Investors are invited to set up downstream industries in partnership with Myanma Timber Enterprise and are encouraged use of lesser known (or used) species in conjunction with more popular ones in the manufacture of these products.Bamboo is an inexhaustible supply of industrial raw material, especially for pulp and paper, bamboo chips and other utility commodities. Investors interested in bamboo based industry could consider Rakhine Yoma for its abundant supply of bamboo and easy access to the sea. Over 60 million pieces of rattan are available from rainforests of Myanmar. Yet no serious efforts have been made to develop this industry. Investments in the rattan industry would be most welcome.
